PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

TECOFI Balancing Valve

Balancing valves, also known as balance valves, are valves used to balance pressure loss, flow or temperature; their main function is to balance the fluid and temperature equally across two pipe branches. They also maintain flow conditions so that control valves work accurately in HVAC systems, because an unbalanced system can cause wide temperature differences between rooms and can increase energy demand.

The valve is used to measure and adjust flow and pressure to achieve hydraulic balance between the branches of a system, helping to calculate flow and pressure loss and to set the values of each branch so the system is easy to balance.

The valve is usually set automatically or manually.

Balancing valves are installed on the supply or return line of HVAC systems, piping networks and similar systems to adjust flow and pressure (hydraulic balancing) across the distribution system, making it possible to measure and set flow and pressure as required.

Balancing valves play a vital role in HVAC systems and in water piping systems throughout a building. Almost every water piping system uses at least one balancing valve. Why balancing valves matter:

  • An unbalanced system cannot meet its cooling load.
  • In an unbalanced system, remote circuits do not receive the required design flow.
  • Without balancing valves, cooling performance is reduced.
  • Maximum cooling capacity is fully distributed to all terminal units. This means an optimized system and building performance, guaranteed efficiency and, ultimately, cost savings.
  • Eliminates noise, vibration, hunting and feedback.
  • A non-clogging design can be backflushed for easy cleaning.
  • Reduces the number of valves in the system.
  • Ensures proper flow rates and therefore higher efficiency.
  • Eliminates costs associated with testing and balancing.
  • Allows additional equipment to be added easily without affecting the balance.

Choosing a code in the Tecofi balancing range

According to Tecofi’s 2026 catalogue (Balancing Solutions chapter), the range for HVAC projects includes:

Code Type Size Features per manufacturer
RC2152 BSP female thread DN15 to DN50 40-position head with parabolic plug for precise adjustment, slanted seat for low head losses, pressure test points, drain plugs, stop thrust that returns to the initial position after valve isolation. For heating, domestic water and air conditioning circuits.
RC4240 / RC4250 Flanged PN16 / PN25, variable orifice DN65 to DN500 (RC4250 up to DN600) Ductile iron EN-GJS-400-15 body and bonnet, ductile iron disc with EPDM, two steel pressure test points, opening indicator with travel limiter, memory position with locking screw.
RC4241 / RC4251 Flanged PN16 / PN25, fixed orifice DN65 to DN500 (RC4251 up to DN600) Same build as above but with a fixed orifice, adjusted upstream.

The manufacturer also has the RC7240N regulation unit (butterfly valve with two pressure test points and a regulating diaphragm, DN350 to DN600), OP6446 / OP6456 flow adjustment orifices between flanges (flow accuracy +/- 3% at normal velocities) and the TEC’CONTROL electronic measuring device (a case with software carrying the data of many brands).

Applications

The manufacturer explains that hydraulic balancing brings each branch its required flow, avoids overheated and underheated rooms, allows flow, differential pressure or temperature to be measured at any point and lets the network be extended later; a well balanced network can save 10 to 20% energy, or more in some cases. Valves are fitted on the return branches, while the flanged valve at the distribution header absorbs part of the network pressure drop so the branch valves work within a better adjustment range.

What to send for a quote

  • Size in DN or thread; connection (BSP thread or PN16 / PN25 flange).
  • Design flow rate and target pressure drop for each branch.
  • Water temperature and medium (chilled water, hot water, domestic water).
  • Whether you need the TEC’CONTROL meter or spare pressure test points.

CAD replies with a quote within 24 working hours of receiving the details.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about CAD-FL-120

What is a balancing valve used for in an HVAC system?

It balances the hydraulics so each branch gets its design flow; rooms then reach an even temperature and the system uses energy sensibly. The manufacturer cites savings of 10 to 20%, or more in some cases.

What is the difference between RC2152 and RC4240?

RC2152 is a BSP female threaded valve for DN15 to DN50. RC4240 is a PN16 flanged valve (RC4250 is PN25) in ductile iron for DN65 and up, with a variable orifice; RC4241 / RC4251 are the fixed orifice versions.

Can the flow be measured directly on the valve?

The valves have pressure test points. Combine them with Tecofi's TEC'CONTROL electronic meter (software with the data of many brands) to measure and set the flow.

Where are balancing valves fitted?

According to the catalogue, on the return branch of each riser; the flanged valve at the distribution header absorbs part of the pressure drop so the branch valves work within a better adjustment range.

What do I need to send for a Tecofi balancing valve quote?

Size in DN or thread, connection type, flow and pressure drop of each branch, temperature and any measuring device needed. CAD replies within 24 working hours.
