PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Elster TRZ2 Turbine Gas Meter
Honeywell Elster TRZ2 turbine gas meters are robust meters used to accurately and reliably measure gas consumption in gas distribution, industrial plants or for commercial users. Over decades they have proven to be highly accurate from the first calibration on to the end of their lifetime many years later. This is why leading gas distribution companies around the globe rely on the TRZ2 for their standard gas metering applications.

Operating principle
The gas flowing through the meter sets the turbine wheel in motion; the number of revolutions is proportional to the volume passing through. A patented aluminium flow straightener eliminates flow disturbances such as swirl or asymmetric flow created by bends or T-pieces upstream, after which the cross section is reduced to increase flow velocity. The wheel shaft runs on ball bearings and drives, through gears and a magnetic coupling, the 8-digit mechanical counter in the pressure-less index head. The patented measuring cartridge is quick to replace in the field.
Pulse outputs and index head
- Standard: 2 low-frequency LF outputs (type E1, maximum 0.5 Hz, reed contacts) and 1 manipulation contact; 2.5 m open-ended 6-wire cable (IN-S10), with 6-pin connector versions (IN-S11, IN-S12).
- Optional: up to 4 high-frequency HF outputs (max. 2 of type A1S and 2 of type A1R), absolute encoder, integrated HF pulser.
- The S1 index head is IP67 with an 8-digit mechanical index and can be rotated by 350° without breaking any seals.
Standards
- Designed and manufactured to EN 12261 and OIML R137-1; directives MID 2014/32/EU, ATEX 2014/34/EU, PED 2014/68/EU; quality system per DIN EN ISO 9001:2008.
- Error limits per EN 12261: ±1% from 0.2 Qmax to Qmax and ±2% from Qmin to 0.2 Qmax; the standard measuring range is 1:20 (MID allows wider ranges depending on pressure).
- According to the manufacturer the TRZ2 is fire-proof (HTB) and can be used in critical C&I installations.
Installation and materials
- Mounting position: horizontal or vertical according to EN 12261.
- Inlet pipe: at least 2 DN for DN80–DN150 regardless of flow disturbance, and at least 5 DN for DN50 (no flow straightener). Outlet: a fitting in the nominal diameter of the meter.
- Meter body in ductile iron (GGG-40) or forged steel; turbine wheel in aluminium.
- For sizes larger than 6″ Honeywell offers the SM-RI-X turbine gas meter, up to 24″.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about CAD-FL-150
Which sizes does the Elster TRZ2 turbine meter come in and what flow does it measure?
Meter sizes G65 to G1000, nominal diameters DN50 to DN150 (2" to 6"), maximum measuring range 5 to 1,600 m³/h, standard range 1:20. Operating pressure 0 to 100 barg, temperature -25 to +70 °C (acc. MID).
How much straight pipe does the TRZ2 need upstream?
For DN80–DN150 only 2 DN of inlet pipe thanks to the flow straightener, even with flow disturbance; for DN50 (no flow straightener) at least 5 DN. Install horizontally or vertically.
Can the TRZ2 be connected to the EK220 volume converter?
The TRZ2 has LF pulse outputs for an EVC or flow computer, and an optional direct mount for a Honeywell EVC; the EK220 takes the LF pulses of a gas meter. Send the details and CAD will confirm the configuration.
What is the accuracy of the TRZ2?
Per EN 12261: ±1% from 0.2 Qmax to Qmax and ±2% from Qmin to 0.2 Qmax; it has MID approval for fiscal measurement.
What do I send to get a quote for the TRZ2?
Send the G size or Qmin/Qmax, DN, operating pressure, flange rating, gas type, pulse outputs and options. CAD quotes within 24 working hours.
