Applications
Honeywell presents the Searchpoint Optima Plus for environments with catalytic bead poisons or inhibitors, or harsh conditions that call for longer maintenance intervals, for example offshore oil and gas platforms, FPSO vessels, tankers, onshore oil and gas terminals, refineries, LNG/LPG bottling plants, gas compressor/metering stations, gas turbine power plants and solvent printing and coating plants.
Detection characteristics
- Infrared technology: fast response, fail-to-safe operation, less routine maintenance than catalytic sensors, immune to catalytic poisons, works in inert atmospheres.
- 4-channel (dual compensated) optics, heated optics with dynamic heating control against condensation, contaminated-optics warning, event logging, improved diagnostics.
- More than 100 gas and vapour calibrations; response T50 under 3 seconds, T90 under 4 seconds (methane); baseline accuracy under ±1% FSD, 50% FSD under ±2% FSD (hydrocarbon).
- Weight 1.6 kg; supply 18-32 Vdc, under 4.5 W maximum; functional safety IEC 61508 SIL 2; performance to EN 60079-29-1; marine approvals (MED, DNV, BV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register).
Compatibility and accessories
- Auto-sensing sink/source 4-20 mA output; optional HART over 4-20 mA; multidrop Modbus RS485 via the XNX Universal Transmitter (local display, magnetic switch, optional relays).
- Accessories: sunshade/deluge protection, storm baffle, dust barrier, gassing cover, calibration cap, duct mounting kit, remote gas sampling housing, HALO Ex e junction box, SHC-1 hand-held interrogator.
Information to send for a quote
- The gas or vapour to be detected (calibration) and the range.
- The signal type (4-20 mA, HART, Modbus), and whether an XNX transmitter or an existing controller is used.
- The hazardous area, ambient temperature, accessories needed and the quantity.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about CAD-SF-432
Which gases can the Searchpoint Optima Plus detect?
Combustible hydrocarbon gases such as methane and propane, and many solvent vapours; Honeywell offers more than 100 gas and vapour calibrations. The standard range is 0-100% LEL, with other ranges for specialist applications; state the gas to be detected when requesting a quote.
How does it differ from a catalytic detector?
It uses infrared technology, so it is immune to catalytic poisons, responds fast, fails safe and needs less maintenance than a catalytic detector; it also works in inert atmospheres.
How does it connect to a transmitter or control system?
4-20 mA output (auto-sensing sink or source), optional HART over the same 4-20 mA wiring; it connects to the XNX Universal Transmitter for a local display, optional relays and Modbus RS485.
What should I send CAD to quote a Searchpoint Optima Plus?
Send the gas to be detected, the signal type (4-20 mA, HART, Modbus), the hazardous area, the accessories needed and the quantity. CAD quotes within 24 working hours.
