Sensor compatibility

The XNX is a common transmitter for Honeywell Analytics fixed gas sensors. The configuration (“personality”) is set by the sensor attached:

Configuration Supported sensors
XNX mV All mV signal input sensors: MPD catalytic (flammable), MPD infrared (hydrocarbons, CH4 and CO2), Sensepoint HT and PPM, Model 705
XNX EC XNX EC electrochemical toxic gas and oxygen sensors
XNX IR Searchpoint Optima Plus (point infrared), Searchline Excel (open-path infrared, 5–40 m)

Outputs and communication

  • 4–20 mA selectable as sink, source or isolated; HART as standard (optional local intrinsically safe HART port).
  • Optional Modbus RTU, Foundation Fieldbus and relays; further output modules can be fitted as new standards appear.
  • Backlit multilingual LCD with text, bar graph, digits and icons; local status LEDs; configured through magnetic switches without opening the unit.

Operation and maintenance

  • Hot-swappable toxic and oxygen sensor cartridges (intrinsically safe interface), with no hot work permit needed according to the manufacturer; catalytic and infrared sensors are serviceable.
  • Auto-inhibit during maintenance.

Installation

  • Two integral mounting lugs for surface mounting, or pipe mounting on Ø100–150 mm pipe with a U-bolt and optional bracket; ceiling or duct mounting; remote sensor mounting kit optional.
  • Five M25 (ATEX/IECEx version) or ¾” NPT (UL/CSA version) entries for cable, conduit or the sensor; removable POD with plug/socket terminal blocks.
  • Use 0.5 – 2.5 mm² (20 – 13 AWG) cable. For an XNX mV with an MPD catalytic sensor or an XNX EC, a single transmitter powered from a PSU, typical maximum cable lengths: 347 m (1.0 mm²), 551 m (1.5 mm²), 880 m (2.0 mm²), 1,408 m (2.5 mm²).

Applications

According to Honeywell: offshore oil and production platforms, oil and gas exploration and drilling, refineries, chemical and petrochemical plants, onshore oil and gas terminals, gas transmission and power stations.

Approvals

According to the datasheet: ATEX, UL and CSA approvals (European, US and Canadian), ATEX, UL and CSA performance approvals, IEC 61508 SIL 2; flameproof enclosure in painted marine grade aluminium alloy or 316 stainless steel.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about CAD-SF-430

Which sensors can the Honeywell XNX gas transmitter be used with?

The XNX is a common transmitter for Honeywell Analytics fixed gas sensors: MPD catalytic and infrared, Sensepoint HT and PPM, Model 705, the XNX EC electrochemical sensor for toxic gases and oxygen, Searchpoint Optima Plus and Searchline Excel (open path).

Which output signals does the XNX provide?

4–20 mA selectable as sink, source or isolated; HART as standard; optional Modbus RTU, Foundation Fieldbus and relays. It is configured with magnetic switches without opening the cover.

Does the XNX have ATEX, UL and SIL approvals?

The datasheet lists ATEX, UL and CSA approvals (with performance approvals) and IEC 61508 SIL 2. The flameproof enclosure is painted marine grade aluminium or 316 stainless steel.

Does replacing an XNX sensor need a shutdown or a hot work permit?

The toxic and oxygen cartridges of the XNX EC can be hot-swapped through an intrinsically safe interface, which the manufacturer states needs no hot work permit; the XNX also auto-inhibits during maintenance.

What do I send to get a quote for the XNX?

Send the gases and sensor technology, quantity, housing material, required outputs, hazardous-area approvals and mounting. CAD quotes within 24 working hours.
