The MultiRAE Pro is highly versatile, accepting up to 25 interchangeable sensors to monitor a wide range of hazards, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), toxic gases, combustible gases and O2 levels, as well as gamma radiation. Its large, intuitive display and easily replaced sensors make it simple to use and calibrate, and 5 alarm types, including a low alarm, give you the flexibility to detect and respond to incidents quickly.

Choosing sensors and configuration

According to the manufacturer’s data sheet (DS-1068-11), the MultiRAE Pro has over 25 intelligent field-replaceable sensors that store calibration data and monitors up to six threat types at a time (a six-gas configuration needs a two-gas combination sensor). Sensor groups:

• Gamma radiation: 0 to 20,000 μRem/h, 1 cc CsI(Tl) scintillator with photodiode.
• PID for VOCs: 10.6 eV extended range 0-5,000 ppm (0.1 ppm) and ppb range 0-2,000 ppm (10 ppb).
• Combustible gas: catalytic LEL 0-100% LEL; NDIR 0-100% LEL or 0-100% Vol. methane; CO2 NDIR 0-50,000 ppm.
• Electrochemical: NH3, CO (several ranges, including H2-compensated and H2S combination), Cl2, ClO2, ethylene oxide, formaldehyde, HCN, H2S, methyl mercaptan, NO, NO2, O2, phosphine and SO2; liquid O2 is also available.

Operation and durability

• Built-in pump, average flow 250 cc/min, auto shutoff in low-flow conditions; 128 x 160 graphical display with backlight and an automatic screen flip.
• Alarms: multi-tone audible 95 dB at 30 cm, vibration, flashing red LEDs and on-screen indication; Man Down with pre-alarm and remote notification (wireless version).
• Battery: Li-ion about 12 h (recharge under 6 h), extended Li-ion about 18 h (recharge under 9 h), or an alkaline adapter with 4 x AA about 6 h (specifications are for non-wireless monitors).
• Continuous datalogging: six months for 5 sensors at one-minute intervals, running 24/7.
• IP-65; -20 to +50 °C; humidity 0 to 95% non-condensing; MIL-STD-810G and 461F compliant; 193 x 96.5 x 66 mm, 880 g.
• Manual calibration or automatic with AutoRAE 2; the manufacturer recommends calibrating the sensors on installation.
