Explosion-proof equipment
Explosion-proof equipment is built so it does not become an ignition source where flammable gas, vapour or dust is present, such as fuel depots, chemical plants and paint shops. Selection follows the hazardous-area zone (ATEX/IECEx), gas group and temperature class.

What is an Ex zone?
A classification of areas by how likely an explosive atmosphere is; a lower zone number means higher risk.
Can ordinary equipment be used in Ex areas?
No, hazardous areas require equipment with a suitable Ex certification.
