- FM Approved “Process Control Valves.”
Construction and operating principle
- 2/2 normally closed valve; zero-differential piloted diaphragm; a double-disc design with overtravel gives redundant sealing for leak-tight shutoff.
- Die-cast aluminium body; wetted parts include NBR seals and disc, a 305 stainless steel core tube, 430F stainless steel core and plugnut, 302 stainless steel springs and a copper shading coil.
- 1/8 inch NPT upstream and downstream test ports with plugs for routine testing.
- Opening and closing time under 1 second.
Electrical and coil enclosure
- Standard voltages: 24, 120, 240 V AC 60 Hz (or 110, 220 V AC 50 Hz) and 12, 24 V DC. Coil insulation class F or B; power 20 W AC (28.2 W for the larger coil) and 14.9 W DC.
- General purpose enclosure: RedHat metal Type 1 junction box housing with two 7/8 inch knockouts for 1/2 inch conduit.
Standards and certification
- UL listed to UL 429 “Electrically Operated Valves”, Guide YIOZ, File MP618 Safety Shutoff Valves.
- CSA: C22.2 No. 139, Z21.21 (6.5) Automatic Gas Valves and Automatic Gas Safety Shutoff Valves C/I (3.9), File 112872.
- FM: the ASCO catalogue states FM Approved “Process Control Valves”. Approvals can differ by catalogue number, so confirm them for the specific code.
Information to send for a quote
- The pipe size and thread (NPT), coil voltage and frequency, current type (AC/DC).
- The gas type, working pressure and flow; the certification required (UL, FM, CSA) and any proof-of-closure switch or position indicator.
- The quantity and the full ASCO catalogue number if known.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about CAD-TH-221
Is the ASCO 8214 normally closed or normally open?
According to the ASCO catalogue the 8214 is a 2/2 normally closed valve for shutting off and controlling gas to burners; on loss of power the valve closes by spring.
What differential pressure does the 8214 work at?
It is a zero-differential valve, with an operating pressure differential of 0 to 5 psi (about 0.3 bar) per the catalogue. Give CAD the actual gas pressure so it can be checked.
What voltages are available and what kind of coil enclosure does it have?
Standard voltages 24, 120, 240 V AC 60 Hz (or 110, 220 V AC 50 Hz), 12 and 24 V DC. The coil enclosure is general purpose, a Type 1 junction-box style; it is not an explosion-proof enclosure.
What should I send CAD to quote an ASCO 8214?
Send the full ASCO catalogue number or the pipe size, coil voltage, gas type, pressure, flow and certification requirements. CAD quotes within 24 working hours.
