PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Kidde GSA-CT1 Input Module

Overview
The GSA-CT1 Single Input Module, GSA-CT1HT High
Temperature Single Input Module and GSA-CT2/GSA-MCT2 Dual
Input Modules are intelligent analog addressable devices used to
connect one or two Class B normally-open Alarm, Supervisory, or
Monitor type dry contact Initiating Device Circuits (IDC).

The actual function of these modules is determined by the
“personality code” selected by the installer. This code is downloaded
to the module from the Signature loop controller during system
configuration.

The input modules gather analog information from the initiating
devices connected to them and convert it into digital signals.
The module’s on-board microprocessor analyzes the signal and
decides whether or not to input an alarm.

The GSA-CT1, GSA-CT1HT and GSA-CT2 mount to standard
North American 1-gang electrical boxes, making them ideal for
locations where only one module is required. Separate I/O and
data loop connections are made to each module.

The GSA-CT1HT module operates at an expanded temperature
range of 32 ºF to 158 ºF (0 ºC to 70 ºC) for those applications
requiring more extreme environmental temperature variation.

Standard Features
• Multiple applications
Including Alarm, Alarm with delayed latching (retard) for
waterflow applications, Supervisory, and Monitor. The installer
selects one of four “personality codes” to be downloaded to
the module through the loop controller.
• GSA-CT1HT rated for high temperature environments
Suitable for attic installation and monitoring high temperature
heat detectors.
• Plug-in (UIO) or standard 1-gang mount
UIO versions allow quick installation where multiple modules
are required. The 1-gang mount version is ideal for remote
locations that require a single module.
• Automatic device mapping
Signature modules transmit information to the loop controller
regarding their circuit locations with respect to other Signature
devices on the wire loop.
• Electronic addressing
Programmable addresses are downloaded from the loop
controller, a PC, or the Signature Program/Service Tool.
There are no switches or dials to set.
• Ground fault detection by address
Detects ground faults right down to the device level.

Choosing the function with a personality code

The module’s function is chosen during system configuration and downloaded from the loop controller. The GSA-CT1 uses one code; the dual-input GSA-CT2 / GSA-MCT2 use two.

Code Function Typical device
1 Normally-open alarm, latching Pull stations, heat detectors
2 Normally-open alarm, delayed latching (about 16 seconds) Waterflow alarm switches
3 Normally-open active, non-latching Fans, dampers, doors
4 Normally-open active, latching Supervisory and tamper switches

Compatibility and installation

  • Use with a Signature loop controller; the manufacturer lists compatibility with VM and VS series control panels (for example the Kidde VM-1R panel).
  • Mounts in a North American 1-gang box 2-1/2 in. (64 mm) deep or a 4 in. square box 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) deep with a 1-gang cover or GSA-MP plate; terminals take #12 to #18 AWG wire.
  • The address is downloaded from the loop controller or the Signature Program/Service Tool; there are no switches or dials; ground faults are detected down to the device level.
  • Input circuit: 47 kΩ end-of-line resistor; maximum wire resistance 50 Ω per circuit; maximum distance to the EOL 4,000 ft (1,219 m); the circuit is supervised and power-limited.
  • The module does not support 2-wire smoke detectors.
  • Operating environment 0 to 49 °C. Use the GSA-CT1HT where 0 to 70 °C is needed (for example attics) and the GSA-CT2 or plug-in GSA-MCT2 where two circuits are needed on one module.

What to send for a quote

  • Number of modules and the function (personality code) of each.
  • Variant: GSA-CT1, GSA-CT1HT, GSA-CT2 or GSA-MCT2.
  • The fire panel in use (VM or VS) and the mounting box type.
  • Ambient temperature at the mounting point.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about CAD-SF-442

What can the GSA-CT1 connect?

Class B normally-open dry contact devices: pull stations, heat detectors, waterflow switches, supervisory and tamper switches, or the status signal of fans, dampers and doors. The function is set by personality code 1 to 4.

Does the GSA-CT1 work with the VM-1R panel?

Yes. According to the manufacturer, GSA modules are compatible with VM and VS series fire panels and work with the Signature loop controller.

What is the difference between GSA-CT1 and GSA-CT1HT?

Both are single-input modules. The GSA-CT1 operates at 0 to 49 °C; the GSA-CT1HT withstands 0 to 70 °C, for attics and high-temperature heat detectors.

Can the GSA-CT1 connect 2-wire smoke detectors?

No. The manufacturer states the module does not support 2-wire smoke detectors.

What do I need to send for a GSA-CT1 quote?

Number of modules, the function of each, the variant (CT1, CT1HT, CT2, MCT2), the fire panel in use and the ambient temperature. CAD replies within 24 working hours.
