PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Kidde VM-1R Fire Alarm Control Panel
Description VM Series represents the latest generation of life safety control panels for mid to large sized applications. With large multi-mes sage displays, intuitive interfaces, and stylish contoured cabinets — these systems capture the imagination, and catch the eye. But behind the LCD display is where they really shine. New TCP/IP-enabled microprocessors and chipsets take full ad vantage of the latest advances in computing technology, leading to smarter, faster, higher-capacity processing and more efficient designs. VM Series’s patented Voltage Boost™ technology, for ex ample, delivers constant voltage on NAC and AUX circuits – even at low battery power – resulting in lighter cable requirements and/ or longer runs. That saves time and money. High performance processing also leads to powerful networking features and versatile digital audio functionality. In fact, VM Series can handle jobs that range from a single stand-alone control panel, to a sophisticated network comprising as many as 24 con trol panels processing data from up to 24,000 devices. High quality voice evacuation also delivers system design flexibil ity with scalable implementation from simple Place-of-Assembly capability right up to multi-channel operation for highrise and cam pus applications. VM Series features three channels of integrated digital audio. Its optional paging control center includes a high quality paging microphone to which can be added a firefighters’ telephone. VM Series makes all this new technology readily accessible with easy installation and maintenance. Electronic addressing means devices virtually install themselves, while intuitive installation and detailed diagnostic tools offer a clear and rapid path to flawless system operation.
Compatibility and expansion
The VM-1 addressable loop works with Kidde KI-Series and V-Series devices and GSA modules (for example the GSA-CT1 input module). Each VM-SLC loop expansion card adds 250 devices (125 detectors and 125 modules); one panel can carry up to 4 loops, 1,000 devices in total.
- Network: up to 24 VM panels and 24,000 intelligent points, over RS-485 or fibre optic (optional fibre transceiver cards).
- Remote annunciation: up to 30 R-Series annunciators (LCD or LED) per panel.
- Audio: 3 integrated digital audio channels; optional voice evacuation, paging microphone and firefighters’ telephone.
- Power and batteries: PS10-4B supply, 24 VDC at 10 A (UL), 93 to 264 VAC input; charges sealed lead-acid batteries up to 65 Ah; larger batteries use the separate BC-1 battery cabinet (BC-1R in red).
- IP or cellular reporting: use third-party communicators that the manufacturer has tested for UL 864 compatibility (see the VM compatibility document, part number 3101804-EN). An optional Ethernet port is used for diagnostics and programming.
Standards and installation conditions
According to the manufacturer’s data sheet the panel meets UL 2572 and UL 864 UUKL, and UL 864 for releasing applications when the GSA-REL module is used. Optional seismic hardening is available (importance factor 1.5). Operating environment 0 to 49 °C, 0 to 93% non-condensing humidity; field wiring 18 to 12 AWG (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), no shielded cable required. The backbox is for semi-flush or surface mounting.
These approvals are US UL listings. For projects in Vietnam, confirm with the designer and the fire authority which approvals apply before choosing a configuration.
What to send for a quote
- Door colour: VM-1R (red) or VM-1S (silver).
- Number of detectors and modules to connect, to work out the number of loops.
- Number of notification appliance circuits (NAC); whether voice evacuation or a firefighters’ telephone is needed.
- Whether several panels are networked or R-Series remote annunciators are used.
- Planned battery size, an Ethernet card and an IP/cellular communicator if any.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about CAD-SF-441
What is the difference between VM-1R and VM-1S?
Same configuration: CPU, one addressable loop, four Class B NACs, a 10 A power supply and the LCD. Only the door colour differs: VM-1R is red, VM-1S is silver.
How many devices can one VM-1R panel connect?
One loop is standard. Each VM-SLC loop expansion card adds 250 devices (125 detectors and 125 modules), up to 1,000 devices per panel. A network can link up to 24 panels and 24,000 points.
Which detectors and modules work with the VM-1R?
The addressable loop uses Kidde KI-Series and V-Series devices and GSA modules, for example the GSA-CT1 input module.
Does the VM-1R offer voice evacuation?
Yes, as an option: the panel has 3 integrated digital audio channels; the paging microphone and firefighters' telephone are added separately.
What do I need to send for a VM-1R quote?
