Flame sensors

A flame sensor (flame scanner) detects the presence of a flame and signals the burner controller. UV types respond to the ultraviolet radiation of the flame and are widely used on gas and oil burners.

  • UV sensors for gas and oil burners
  • Compact types mounted directly on the burner
  • Select by mounting position, line of sight to the flame and ambient temperature
  • Must be matched to the burner controller

Brands listed here: Honeywell. CAD supplies datasheets and CO/CQ and advises on pairing the sensor with the right controller.

How is a flame sensor different from a flame detector?

A flame sensor serves burner control; a flame detector warns of fire in an area.

Why clean the sensor head?

Dirt on the window weakens the signal and can cause nuisance shutdowns.
