Tecofi Y-strainers

A Y-strainer keeps debris on a screen upstream of a valve, pump or meter to protect the equipment behind it; the screen can be removed for cleaning through the cap. Tecofi lists F1142A brass, F2143W bronze, F6169/F6769 316 stainless with threads, F4240B-EP/F4240C-EA ductile iron and F6246-PF stainless with flanges; stainless screens, with mesh size depending on DN.

How do you choose the mesh size?

A finer screen keeps back smaller particles but clogs sooner and adds pressure loss; choose by what the downstream equipment needs. Send the DN, flow and equipment type and CAD will advise.

How is a Y-strainer installed?

Fit it in the direction of the arrow on the body with the screen cap pointing down or sideways so the screen is easy to pull and clean; put isolating valves on both sides so the system need not be stopped.
