Quoting a Maxon or Kromschröder Burner: What Information Is Needed?

CAD at the Honeywell Thermal Solutions booth

To quote a Maxon burner or Kromschröder combustion equipment, CAD needs to know the furnace or heating process (hot air, immersion tube, high-temperature furnace), the fuel and available gas pressure, the capacity and turndown required, the operating temperature, the combustion air source (integral or separate blower), the voltage and frequency, and the control and safety scheme you want. If you are replacing an existing burner, a photo of its nameplate and the current model speed up the configuration.

Why each item matters

The Maxon and Kromschröder datasheets show that each burner series is designed for a specific way of transferring heat, and that performance depends on the real installation. These are the points the manufacturers stress.

1. Furnace type and heating method

  • Maxon OVENPAK 400: burns clean fuel gas into a passing air stream, for ovens, dryers, paint finishing lines, grain dryers and fume incinerators; heat release up to 16.5 MMBtu/h, turndown of 40:1 or more, and only low-pressure gas is needed.
  • Maxon KINEDIZER LE: a gas burner for high-temperature applications (oxidizers, kilns, furnaces, process heaters), capacity up to 75 MMBtu/h, turndown up to 20:1, maximum chamber temperature 2000°F (about 1093°C). For low-temperature air heating (below 760°C) the manufacturer says a user-supplied discharge sleeve is needed.
  • Maxon Series 67 TUBE-O-FLAME: fires into an immersion tube for dip tanks, spray washers, salt baths and asphalt kettles; maximum 5,000,000 Btu/h, 20:1 turndown. The manufacturer warns that burner performance can be drastically affected by the tube configuration, so tube size and shape must be provided.
  • Kromschröder ZMI: a 1 to 4 kW pilot burner for natural gas, town gas or LPG, with burner tube lengths of 150 to 1000 mm; it can also be used on its own.

2. Fuel and gas pressure

The Maxon series above burn clean fuel gas (natural gas, propane and so on); the ZMI runs on natural gas, town gas or LPG. The KINEDIZER LE datasheet says its stated pressures are indicative, because actual pressures depend on air humidity, altitude, fuel type and gas quality. Please give us the gas type, calorific value if known, and the real pressure at the head of the line.

3. Capacity and turndown

Every model has its own maximum capacity and turndown ratio, so we need the required capacity (kW or MMBtu/h) and the low-to-high range your process needs in order to pick the right size.

4. Combustion air, blower and air temperature

The OVENPAK comes with an integral blower or as a separate-blower (EB) version; the TUBE-O-FLAME comes with a blower or as the LB version without one. The KINEDIZER LE accepts preheated combustion air up to 350°C (430°C on request), in which case maximum capacity must be reduced. For blower sizing the manufacturer asks you to add a 5% safety margin plus the pressure drops of piping and control valves.

5. Voltage and frequency

The Series 67 capacity tables are for 60 Hz; for 50 Hz power the manufacturer says to reduce capacity to 83% and pressures to 70%. Please state your plant’s voltage, phases and frequency.

6. Control and safety

A burner needs a burner control unit, flame sensing and a suitable gas train. For example, the Kromschröder BCU 370 controls, ignites and monitors modulating forced-draught burners, and the VGBF is a gas pressure regulator. What to send CAD for a quotation

  • Furnace or process type, operating temperature, and the size of the chamber or immersion tube.
  • Fuel (natural gas, LPG and so on) and the available gas pressure.
  • Required capacity and turndown.
  • Combustion air: integral or separate blower, and whether the air is preheated.
  • Supply voltage, phases and frequency (50 Hz).
  • Control scheme: on/off or modulating, flame sensor, pilot burner.
  • Model, serial number and nameplate photo of the existing burner, if replacing one.
  • Quantity, site, and whether you need installation and commissioning.

CAD supports installation, tuning and commissioning; see Maxon burner installation and tuning at Enkei Hanoi. The full range is in the industrial burner category and the Maxon and Kromschröder brand pages.

Send the model or specification and CAD will quote within 24 working hours.

Frequently asked questions

Where do Maxon and Kromschröder come from?

Maxon is a US brand and Kromschröder is German. CAD supplies genuine products with full CO/CQ documentation.

Can you quote from the model alone?

If you are replacing the exact old model, the model and a photo of the nameplate are enough to start. For a new system we need the information listed above so engineers can select a suitable burner.

What equipment goes with a burner?

A burner controller, flame supervision and a suitable gas train; CAD supplies all of these items.

What is a pilot burner for?

A pilot burner produces a small, stable flame that lights the main burner safely.
